Personal highlights from REBlogWorld

By Todd Carpenter | September 22, 2008

REBlogWorld, the event, the learning experience, the opportunities it represents for the future, everything… more than anything, taught me a lot about myself. More on that in a future post. For now, I spent this morning trying to get my head around the last few days. Here are some of the highlights.

“I can’t believe you pulled this off”

Hearing that from more than a few people was very gratifying.

“This is the single best show like this I’ve ever been to”

That would mean a lot from anyone. But it came from Teresa Boardman, and she said it with the same “eyes wide open” expression on her face that I had when I went to Blog World in 2007. If Teresa’s compliment was the only one I received at the show, all of the the work would still have been worth it.

“You’re speakers on Friday were as good or better than anyone I’ve seen on Saturday or Sunday.”

We got this a bunch. Thank you. We spent the summer convincing real estate bloggers how much they could learn from other social media types. My realization now is that many of those same social media types have a ton to learn from real estate bloggers. Look for us to address this in 2009.

Meeting people at the IBNMA booth.

From Adam Hirsh of Mashable to Jennifer Lindsay at Eastwick, to my fellow IBNMA advisory board members, it was great to connect with people from all shades of the blogosphere.

LobbyConing it.

The conversations I had in the halls were awesome. Some of the most insightful moments of the show.

Meeting more real estate geeks.

People like ManaTulberg and Sam Basel, who I had not known at all before the show, not even online.

Connecting with my RE.net friends.

There’s no way I can list you all here. But is was great to see EVERYONE. Thank you very much for coming.

Seeing it all come together.

My business partner, Jason Berman had as much to do with making this happen as I did. I think only people like Greg Swann and Andy Kaufman have any idea at how much work it is to put together a real estate 2.0 show from scratch. Without Jason’s work, this would not have gone off as well. Thanks Jason.

Getting kicked out of the Zappos party.

Ok, I don’t know if it was a highlight in itself, but it spun into a few. My apologies to Tony from Zappos for my language on Twitter. You’re a class act.

And finally, behaving badly, far from home.

I told you all that we were planning to play just as hard we worked. We did. Want to know the details? Come to REBlogWorld in 2009 and you’ll know why we’re not sharing. Pacts were made. Alibi’s secured. Cameras left in the hotel room. Yeah, it was like that.

You and Jason pulled off a fantastic conference. I’m already sharing notes and can’t wait to see the videos from the sessions that I didn’t see because I couldn’t be in two places at once!

    Absolutely awesome…

    tcar/jbinfrisco,
It was sweet! Next year, I have a hunch that the word is going to get out and we are going to need crowd-control police. Awesome speakers, great venue, great timing. Same bat-time, same bat-channel next year!

Todd, Thanks for the mention. It was a pleasure to meet so many great people like yourself. The conference was amazing and I know it will change and improve the way I do business….as soon as I get a chance to wrap my head around all my notes.

I think the rest of blogworld could learn a ton from the real estate track. The speakers were amazing- truly one of the best conferences I have been too. I have tons of action items to implement. Thank you to you and Jason Berman for making it possible.
I can\’t wait to see the video of the sessions I couldn\’t see!

    Todd,
It was an honor to meet you in person and learn more from you.
The Real Estate session of BlogWorld (on Friday) was the best part of the whole experience. Thank you for putting together such an incredible group of speakers and an awesome show.

This was an outstanding conference, Todd and Jason - thank you for your efforts and for the results of your countless hours of work.

I too am looking forward to the videos - there were a few that I need to watch in slo-mo to try to get what they were saying.

Todd - Thanks so much for having me speak at REBW. Teaming the conference with BWE08 was a great idea and I thought that the content was of super-high quality and the networking was excellent. Thanks for the blood, sweat and tears you put in to the event. It was well worth it. I’m proud that TurnHere was a sponsor for the inaugural event and I look forward to next year!

The prep work you and Jason did to make sure the sessions would be something that could give a tangible takeaway for the attendees speaks volumes. It’s something anyone planning this type of event could learn from. Chris Brogan posted tips for future speakers that included many of the elements that you included in the planning for the REBW sessions. I’m glad I got involved and would be honored to return any time you’ll have me.

Todd, you know that I signed up early and then thought that I was going to have to cancel at the last minute. I’m so glad that I was able to attend, connect, learn, and even begin to assimilate some of the magnitude of information offered. That this RE conference is piggybacked onto BlogWorld is invaluable, as I could micro-focus on real estate, and then widen back and see what other businesses where doing, that I might be able into incorporate into my operations. Good stuff. Count me in for next year.

Todd — that was an amazing feat you pulled off. My hat is off to ya, matey. Yarrr. And let’s not forget your partner-in-crime, Jason. Both of you deserve much credit and applause.

I am particularly thankful for the No Camera rule. :) No one could look great at 4:30 in the morning… even if he is carrying a book and a bottle of vodka. :)

    Thanks again,
